Abstract
Poster presentation combining a video-based optoelectronic system with surface EMG of the middle deltoid and upper trapezius to measure 3D upper-extremity kinematics (Cardan/Euler angles) and localized muscle fatigue in surgeons during laparoscopic activities. Spectral analysis of the EMG signal revealed that 92% of subjects showed localized muscle fatigue, confirming that surgeons suffer from muscle fatigue due to prolonged static contractions during laparoscopy.
