Abstract
Poster presenting an inverse-dynamics (Visual3D) analysis of joint kinetics during sideways walking in fourteen community-dwelling older adults (65+) before, immediately after, and six weeks after a six-week, three-times-weekly lateral (sideways) stepping training program. The training significantly affected the mechanical characteristics of gait, with implications for balance training approaches that exploit motion-dependent torques rather than active neuromuscular control. Companion biomechanical analysis of the same six-week lateral stepping training cohort whose gait-variability outcomes were presented at the 2018 and 2019 Conferences in Human Movement Variability and at ISB/ASB 2019.
