Abstract
Poster abstract analyzing surgeon’s performance and ergonomics using the Radius r2 DRIVE laparoscopic instruments (Tübingen Scientific Medical, Germany), extending the cutting-task study first presented at iSMIT 2017 (Torino) with an added intracorporeal suturing task. Three experienced laparoscopic surgeons performed cutting and suturing tasks on a box trainer using conventional instruments (Maryland dissector, scissors, needle holder) and their r2 DRIVE equivalents. Execution time, cutting-pattern deviation, suturing performance (validated checklist), surface EMG (trapezius, deltoid, paravertebral muscles), and the NASA-TLX workload index were assessed. The r2 DRIVE instruments increased execution time and muscle activity of the trapezius (bilaterally) and left deltoid, and increased perceived workload, without improving cutting or suturing performance.
